Emaka Alvarens Eseka, known professionally as Alva, is a Cameroonian Afrosoul, Afrobeats, and Afropop singer. She signed a six-year record deal with the Akumba Music label in January 2025 at the age of 23. Alva, was born on April 1, 2002.
Alva is from the South West Region of Cameroon, specifically the Oroko tribe.
She attended the University of Buea as a Linguistics major while pursuing music and discovering a talent for film acting. She appeared in feature films and Capees Comedy skits. Post-graduation, she returned to Douala determined to advance her music career with her mother’s support. After numerous disappointments with potential investors, she finally connected with Akumba Music.
Discovered in a recording studio in Logpom, Douala while supporting a friend’s session. Her impromptu freestyles and acapellas immediately captured Akumba Music boss Achu Normad’s attention, convincing him she was The One.
Music career: Alva’s musical journey has been difficult. She developed a passion for music from a young age but faced opposition from her parents who did not support her career choice. Despite the initial resistance, Alva persevered, spending years performing in live music cabarets in Douala to hone her craft.
Alva was discovered by Akumba Music’s production director, Achu Normad, at a recording studio in Douala, where she had accompanied a friend.
Her impromptu freestyles and acapella performances impressed the label, leading to her signing.
Debut Single: She released her first single, “Areh,” in January 2025, soon after signing with the label.
Musical Style: Alva is known for her soulful voice and unique blend of Afrosoul, Afrobeats, and Afropop.
Debut EP: Her debut EP was slated for release in 2025.
