Ikenna Tladi 

Born born March 15, 2016, Ikenna Tladi is a South African football prodigy who signed a seven-year development contract with the AS Roma Academy in July 2025 at just nine years old. He is considered one of the youngest South Africans to sign with a major European academy.

Early life and background: Ikenna Tladi was born in Wolmaransstad, North West Province, South Africa. His father is a Nigerian and hi mother a South African. His father started training him when he was still a toddler, recognizing his early passion and talent for the sport. Videos of his impressive skills gained international attention on YouTube while he was playing for Old Eds FC in Johannesburg. He also played in a tournament where he was scouted by Italian clubs, including Roma.

Youth career: Ikenna’s journey to AS Roma involved a lengthy assessment process. He joined Roma’s youth set-up in January 2025 and was named Player of the Tournament. He officially signed with the academy in July 2025 and is based in Rome, where he trains and competes. He is set to feature in the club’s U9 team and will receive elite training and education under the AS Roma youth development program.

Playing style: Ikenna is described as a player with exceptional skill, speed, and a sharp football IQ, performing well beyond his age group. He possesses a remarkable left foot, can perform stepovers, flick the ball over players, and contribute to his team’s goals.

Aspirations: Ikenna’s dream is to play for the South African national team, Bafana Bafana, and he hopes to win the World Cup with them. His signing is considered a source of pride for South Africa and a significant step for young African football talent.
