Born on the 5th of December 1983 in Toronto, Canada. Jackie Appiah is a Canadian-born Ghanaian actress, media personality and producer who has received several awards in the West African movie industries notable Ghallywood and Nollywood. The last of five children, the actress spent her childhood in Canada and moved to Ghana when she was 10.

Her passion for acting was cultivated during her time in Canada, where she was involved in end-of-year school plays.

Education:

Appiah spent her early childhood in Toronto, where she attended Derry Down Public School. After moving to Ghana at the age of 10, she attended Faith Montessori and Achimota Preparatory School in Accra, where she was elected the Girls’ Entertainment Prefect. 

In 2022, Appiah earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Information Studies from the University of Ghana. She continued her studies at the same institution and graduated with a Master of Arts in Communication Studies in February 2025.

Career:

Jackie Appiah’s acting career began in 2003 with the TV series Things We Do for Love. She went on to star in successful films like Princess Tyra (2003), Mummy’s Daughter (2006), and Beyoncé: The President’s Daughter (2007). Her success extended to Nollywood films, making her widely known across Africa. Beyond acting, she is also a film producer. Appiah has also appeared in commercials for brands like IPMC and U.B.

Throughout her career, Appiah has received numerous awards, including several Africa Movie Academy Awards. She won Best Supporting Actress in 2007 for Beyoncé: The President’s Daughter, Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2010 for The Perfect Picture, and again in 2024 for Red Carpet. She also received the Best International Actress award at the Papyrus Magazine Screen Actors Awards in 2013 and an Excellence in Creative Art Award at the Ghana Women of the Year Honors in 2023.

In 2020, it was rumored that Appiah had gotten pregnant for the then Liberian President George West but she debunked the allegations.
