Born on September 20, 1989, in Buea, in Cameroon’s Southwest Region, Daphné grew up in Douala, where she received much of her early education and developed an interest in music. Over the years, she has successfully combined music with other creative pursuits, including acting and television.

After completing secondary education, she enrolled at the University of Buea, where she studied Law and Psychology. Although her academic path was not directly connected to the entertainment industry, music remained an important part of her life. During her university years, she began spending time in recording studios and working on music, eventually turning what had started as a passion into a professional career.

Music Career

Daphné began her professional music journey around 2013. In 2014, she released her debut single, “Rastafari,” under Stevens Music Entertainment.

The release introduced her to a wider Cameroonian audience and marked the beginning of a career that would eventually take her beyond the country’s borders.

That same year, she released the four-track project Reflection, featuring songs such as “Ndolo,” “Broken,” “Reflection”and “Rastafari.” The project helped establish her as an emerging artist with a distinctive voice and musical identity.

In 2016, she collaborated with veteran Cameroonian singer Ben Decca on a new version of “Ndolo.” That year also brought one of her first major international recognitions when she won the AFRIMMA Award for Best Female Artist from Central Africa.

Rise to Fame

Daphné released her album Here to Stay in 2016, but it was the following year that dramatically changed the trajectory of her career.

In 2017, she released “Calée,” a song that became a major success in Cameroon and across Africa. The song introduced Daphné to a much larger audience and established her as a prominent figure in contemporary African pop music.

“Calée” became one of the defining songs of her career and earned her major recognition at the 2017 Balafon Music Awards, where she won Song of the Year and Best Female Voice.

The success of the song also opened doors for international performances. Daphné subsequently performed in several African countries, including Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Gabon, Togo and Equatorial Guinea. In 2018, she also performed at the Sômarôho Festival in Madagascar.

Expanding Her Musical Catalogue

Following the success of “Calée,” Daphné continued to release music and collaborate with artists from across Africa.

Her catalogue grew with songs including “Promets-moi,” “Jusqu’à la Gare,” “My Lover,” “Ne Lâches Pas,” “Doucement,” “Alleluia” and “Là-bas.” She also worked with several notable African musicians, including Salatiel, Hiro, Fanicko, Stanley Enow, Koffi Olomidé and Numerica.

Among her notable collaborations was “You Got It,” recorded with Congolese music icon Koffi Olomidé and released in 2020. Such collaborations further expanded her profile across the African music industry.

2019: A Historic Night at the Canal 2’Or

One of the biggest highlights of Daphné’s career came in 2019 at the Canal 2’Or Awards in Yaoundé.

The singer won four awards during the same edition, including:

  • Female Artist of the Year
  • Female Urban Music Artist or Group
  • Best Digital Performance
  • Popular Song for “Calée”

Her four-award haul became one of the most memorable achievements of that edition and earned her widespread recognition in Cameroon.

That same year, Daphné also received the Female Artist of the Year award at the Balafon Music Awards.

The 2019 awards cemented her reputation as one of the leading female artists in Cameroon and marked a particularly successful period in her career.

Acting Career

Daphné has also explored the world of cinema.

In 2020, she made her acting debut in the acclaimed Cameroonian film The Fisherman’s Diary, directed by Enah Johnscott and produced by Kang Quintus.

In the movie, Daphné played Mrs. Anang Joe, the wife of the character played by Nigerian actor Ramsey Nouah.

The film went on to receive international attention and was selected as Cameroon’s submission for the 93rd Academy Awards. Daphné’s appearance in the production demonstrated her versatility as an entertainer and allowed her to explore an artistic field beyond music.

Joining The Voice Kids Afrique Francophone

In 2021, Daphné expanded her television presence by joining the jury of the first season of The Voice Kids Afrique Francophone.

Her participation in the show gave her another platform to share her experience with young aspiring musicians while strengthening her position as an established figure in the African entertainment industry.

Marriage and Family Life

While Daphné has generally maintained a degree of privacy around her personal life, some aspects of her family life have become publicly known.

She entered into a customary marriage in Douala in November 2020. She later became a mother, welcoming her daughter, Afanwi, in July 2023 in the United States.

Her marriage and motherhood coincided with a quieter period in her professional career. After several years of intense activity and success in the music industry, Daphné took an extended break from music.

Away From the Spotlight

Daphné’s extended break from music led to considerable speculation among fans about her future in the industry. However, she eventually began making her way back into the music scene.

Her return demonstrated that her connection with music had not ended. Instead, she appeared to be entering a new phase of her career, balancing her responsibilities as a wife and mother with her identity as an artist.

In 2024, she released “Happy,” featuring Nigerian singer Teni. She followed this with “Stand By Me,” released in September 2025.

The release of “Stand By Me” marked an important moment in her return to active music-making and introduced her to audiences once again after her period away from the spotlight.

Musical Style

Daphné’s music is primarily associated with Afropop, while incorporating elements of Afrobeat, R&B and reggae.

Her songs frequently explore themes of love, relationships, heartbreak, hope, peace and personal experiences. Her distinctive vocal delivery and emotionally driven performances have become important elements of her artistic identity.

Rather than limiting herself to a single musical formula, she has collaborated with artists from different African musical backgrounds, allowing her sound to evolve throughout her career.
