JZyNO

JZyNO, whose real name is Jonathan Lee Pratt, is a Liberian singer and songwriter who has become one of the exciting names in contemporary African music.

Born on January 3, 1995, in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, Liberia, he is known for blending Afropop, Afrobeats, and other modern African sounds. His catchy melodies and relatable lyrics have helped him attract listeners across Africa and beyond.

JZyNO is particularly admired for his determination. Before gaining widespread recognition, he faced financial challenges and worked hard to pursue his musical ambitions. His journey from Liberia to Ghana reflects his commitment to building a career in an increasingly competitive music industry.

Early Life and Background

JZyNO grew up in Liberia and comes from a mixed cultural background. His mother is Nigerien-Liberian, while his father is Liberian-Portuguese. Growing up with these cultural influences helped shape his identity and perspective as an artist.

Before gaining widespread recognition, he apparently supported himself by selling charcoal, firewood, and garri. He later relocated to Ghana in search of improved prospects within the music scene, where he’d have access to a more expansive entertainment network and the chance to refine his musical style.

Music Career and Breakthrough

JZyNO began releasing music professionally in 2019. One of his early songs, Kpan Kpan Me, earned recognition in Liberia and helped establish his name as an emerging artist. He continued releasing music and working with other performers as he developed his career.

His biggest breakthrough came in 2023 with “Butta My Bread,” featuring Ghanaian singer Lasmid. The song became a hit across several markets, introducing JZyNO to a much larger international audience. It also entered the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart and reached the UK Afrobeats Singles Chart.

Following this success, JZyNO continued expanding his catalogue with songs and collaborations, including Eyes on You featuring Camidoh and Mood featuring Khaid. His achievements have helped raise the profile of Liberian music internationally.

Awards and Recognition

JZyNO received several awards at the 2023 Liberia Music Awards, celebrating his growing influence in the country’s music industry. His international success has also brought him recognition beyond Liberia.
