He has described himself as fearless and street-smart, with a playful or mischievous side. He is also known for being comfortable in his own skin and not worrying too much about what other people think of him.

Career

Before becoming a familiar face on reality television, Mmeli Khumalo was already working in modelling and content creation. His interest in fashion, photography and digital media helped him establish himself online and eventually opened the door to television.

Mmeli Khumalo work has since expanded into broader creative projects. On his personal platform, Mmeli describes himself as a creator, explorer and storyteller, with interests including fashion, fitness and storytelling. He has also spoken about using his experiences to encourage young people from township communities.

Big Brother Titans

Mmeli first entered the Big Brother world in 2023, when he became a housemate on the first season of Big Brother Titans: Ziyakhala Wahala.

He entered the show as a young South African model and content creator and was paired with Nigerian housemate Jenni O. The pairing was not considered ideal by Mmeli, and he was eventually evicted after spending 29 days in the house. He finished in 20th place.

Although his stay was relatively short, the experience gave him valuable exposure and helped establish his name among reality-TV fans.

Rather than allowing the early exit to define him, Mmeli continued working on himself and his career. That experience would eventually lead to an unexpected second chance.

Return to Big Brother Mzansi

In 2026, Mmeli Khumalo was selected as one of the returning contestants for Big Brother Mzansi Season 6 — Bazozwa. He joined other former housemates who were given an opportunity to return to the Big Brother house and finish what they had started.

This time, Mmeli entered the house at 27 years old as a content creator and model from Hillbrow. He was determined to approach the game differently from his first Big Brother experience.

He openly acknowledged that his first pairing on Big Brother Titans had affected his journey. For his second chance, he said he planned to be more calculated and strategic, treating the experience as a game rather than relying only on relationships.

His Personality

Mmeli Khumalo is generally portrayed as confident, outgoing and relaxed. He has a playful personality and isn’t afraid to show his sense of humour.

At the same time, his second Big Brother appearance revealed a more thoughtful side. Having already experienced the pressures of reality television, he entered Bazozwa with a better understanding of how nominations, relationships and strategy could affect his chances.

He also became known for his big smile and his use of kasi slang, which helped make his personality stand out among the other housemates.

Mmeli Khumalo and Thandeka

One of the biggest storylines surrounding Mmeli during Big Brother Mzansi was his relationship with fellow housemate Thandeka Tshabalala.

The two developed a close connection inside the house. After Mmeli’s eviction, he told Sowetan that the relationship was genuine and that he intended to pursue it outside the show.

He described Thandeka as beautiful and intelligent and said that she had helped him confront problems and have difficult conversations instead of avoiding them. He also said he appreciated her caring nature.

Their relationship attracted plenty of attention from viewers, with some questioning whether it was part of the game. Mmeli, however, maintained that his feelings were real.

Big Brother Mzansi Journey

Mmeli’s second Big Brother journey lasted much longer than his first.

During Bazozwa, he showed that he had grown as a player. He won the Week 5 Head of House challenge and remained in the competition for nine weeks.

He was eventually evicted on Day 63, just before the finale. His departure left six housemates competing for the final prize.

Although he didn’t reach the finale, his second attempt was a major improvement on his first Big Brother appearance. In an interview after his eviction, Mmeli said he had originally expected to last only about four weeks, so making it to Week 9 exceeded his own expectations.

Life After Big Brother

Mmeli’s return to Big Brother helped strengthen his profile as a model, content creator and entertainment personality. His experience also gave him another opportunity to connect with a much larger audience.

Rather than being known only as a reality-TV contestant, he appears interested in building a broader creative career. His online work combines fashion, fitness, storytelling and digital content, while his personal brand focuses heavily on authenticity and resilience.

His journey is also an example of how a failed first attempt doesn’t necessarily have to be the end of the story. After leaving Big Brother Titans early in 2023, he returned to the franchise three years later and managed to make it much further.
