Mauricia Barzey

Mauricia Barzey is a beauty queen from Montserrat who rose to prominence after winning the Miss Montserrat 2024 title. Known for her confidence, determination, and pride in her Caribbean heritage, she earned recognition as one of the island’s promising young pageant personalities. Her journey shows how stepping outside one’s comfort zone can create opportunities for personal growth, cultural representation, and community involvement.

Early Life and Education

Mauricia Barzey was born on July 30, 2005 and comes from Lookout, a community in Montserrat, a small Caribbean island known for its rich cultural traditions and strong community spirit. When she competed in the Miss Montserrat pageant in 2024, she was an 18-year-old student at Montserrat Community College.

Beyond pageantry, Mauricia has shown an interest in education and community activities. She was involved in the Montserrat Youth Parliament and the Interact Club, experiences that helped develop her communication skills and involvement in public life.

One of her biggest ambitions is to become a veterinarian. Her love for animals has inspired this career goal, although she decided to put her studies toward that dream on hold while fulfilling her responsibilities as Miss Montserrat. 

Winning Miss Montserrat 2024

Mauricia’s major breakthrough came on December 28, 2024, when she was crowned Miss Montserrat 2024 at Carnival City in Little Bay. She competed against five other contestants in an event celebrating the island’s beauty, creativity, talent, and cultural identity.

Her performance impressed the judges, and she also won several special awards, including Miss Photogenic, Best in Swimwear, and Best Interview. These achievements highlighted her ability to present herself confidently across different parts of the competition.

After winning the crown, Mauricia immediately began participating in island activities and festival events. Her role gave her opportunities to engage with the community while representing Montserrat at public celebrations. 

Representing Montserrat Regionally

In January 2025, Mauricia represented Montserrat at the Miss OECS Pageant in Dominica. The regional competition brought together contestants from several Eastern Caribbean islands and provided a platform for celebrating their different cultures and talents.

Although she did not finish among the top three, Mauricia received the Miss Visionary Award for the best promotional video. Her video showcased Montserrat, helping introduce the island’s attractions and identity to a broader audience.

She described the experience as an important stepping stone in her journey, appreciating the friendships she formed and the lessons she gained from meeting fellow contestants. 

Personal Goals and Future Ambitions

Mauricia’s story is about more than winning a beauty title. She has expressed a desire to continue her education, pursue veterinary medicine, and use her pageant experience to achieve meaningful goals.
