Spize

Spize, whose real name is Jonathan William Zorr Jr., is a Liberian singer, songwriter, and performer gaining attention for his fresh sound and growing presence in Liberia’s music industry. His music combines Afrobeats, Afro-pop, R&B, dancehall, and elements of Liberia’s own Kolo-pop style. With catchy melodies and a modern musical approach, he is part of a new generation of Liberian artists hoping to reach audiences beyond their home country.

Early Life and Background

Spize was born on October 22, 2004, in Congo Town, Montserrado County, Liberia. During his younger years, he had a real passion for football and showed real promise as an athlete. Yet as time went on, music started playing an increasingly important role in his life.

His musical journey was shaped by his late mother, who had a deep love for music. Throughout his high school years, he collaborated with friends Boulevard and A-Nas, performing together as the informal group Lonestar Legends. These formative experiences helped him build his stage presence and discover his true musical talents.

Music Career and Breakthrough

Spize began attracting attention by sharing freestyle performances and covers of popular songs online. His versions of tracks by artists such as JZyNo and Ayra Starr helped introduce his talent to more listeners.

A major turning point came in March 2024, when he signed a reported 20 million Liberian dollar (US$115,000) deal with LIB Muzik, a record label based in the United States. The agreement followed growing interest in a preview of his song Melo shared on social media.

Released in 2024, Melo became one of his best-known early songs and helped establish his identity as an emerging Liberian artist. He followed it with tracks including With You and My Side. The latter was described as a tribute to his late mother, giving the song a personal meaning beyond its musical appeal.

Spize’s growing audience on streaming platforms has also helped him build a stronger connection with fans. His career illustrates how social media can create opportunities for young artists who might otherwise struggle to gain wider recognition.
