Viggy

Viggy Da Artist, professionally known as Viggy, is a talented soca singer and songwriter from Anguilla, a small Caribbean island with a growing presence in regional music.

Born Viglef Gumbs, he has earned recognition for his energetic performances, catchy melodies, and dedication to promoting Anguillian culture through music. His journey from junior calypso competitions to becoming a two-time Groovy Soca Monarch demonstrates the importance of persistence and believing in one’s talent.

Early Life and Background

Viggy grew up in Anguilla, where music and cultural celebrations played an important role in community life. His interest in performing appeared early, beginning with childhood appearances in events such as the Prince and Princess Show.

He first explored calypso, a traditional Caribbean genre known for storytelling and social commentary. During his junior calypso years, he competed several times and won one of the competitions he entered. These experiences helped him develop confidence, stage presence, and an understanding of how music could connect with an audience.

At around 12 years old, Viggy moved into soca music by joining a band. He spent approximately eight years performing with different groups, learning the demands of live entertainment and developing his own musical identity. Eventually, he decided to pursue a solo career, giving him greater freedom to express his ideas.

Music Career and Breakthrough

Viggy launched his solo career in 2019 with his debut single, “Insane.” The song marked an important turning point, helping him establish his identity as an independent artist. He has described it as especially meaningful because it helped set his career in motion.

He continued releasing music, including songs such as “All We Know,” “I Love It,” “Endless,” and “Road.” His style leans toward groovy soca, combining infectious Caribbean rhythms with melodic vocals and a relaxed, feel-good atmosphere.

In 2024, Viggy achieved a major milestone by winning Anguilla’s Groovy Soca Monarch title with his song “Energy.” The victory raised his profile and strengthened his ambition to bring Anguillian soca to a wider Caribbean audience.

He followed that success in 2025 by winning the Groovy Soca Monarch title again with “Cinematic.” Winning in consecutive years confirmed his position as one of Anguilla’s leading soca performers.
