Early Life and Education

Shafiqua Maloney was born on February 27, 1999, in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. She grew up in Richland Park in the Marriaqua Valley, where she initially enjoyed sports without necessarily planning to become a professional athlete.

As a schoolgirl, Maloney played netball before discovering her passion for running. A teacher noticed her athletic potential and encouraged her to pursue track and field. Although she initially explored sprinting and hurdles, she eventually found her place in the 800 meters.

She attended Thomas Saunders Secondary School in Saint Vincent before transferring to Verchilds High School in Saint Kitts and Nevis. Her performances helped her earn opportunities to compete at a higher level and pursue further education in the United States.

Maloney attended Southern Illinois University before joining the University of Arkansas, where she developed her abilities as a middle-distance runner while competing in American collegiate athletics.
